Château "la Piscine" + My Favorites
Château "la Piscine" was built to be a retreat for the wealthy in the 18th century, but is unique in that, unlike others of the time, Château "la Piscine" was constructed in the centre of the city. The Château was comissioned for the president of the Cour des Comptes, Joseph Philibert of Belleval. Visitors can no longer visit the Château itself, but can admire it from the outside, and partake in the stunning gardens surrounding it. Hôtel des Trésoriers de la Bourse + My Favorites
At one point, Hôtel des Trésoriers de la Bourse was the largest building of it's kind in Montpellier. It was constructed in the 18th century, and once housed the stock exchange treasury of Languedoc. Château de la Mosson + My Favorites
Château de la Mosson was constructed during the 18th century by Joseph Bonnier, treasurer of the states of Languedoc. After the family became bankrupt at the end of the 18th century, the building became a silk factory, a dye factory, and a soap factory, before finally being aquired by the town of Montpellier in 1982. The building features 18the century architecture, and the Italian designed 'Salon de Musique' is also worth note. There is a 15 hectare garden open to the public, that surrounds the Chateau. Domaine de la Mosson + My Favorites
Construction on Domaine de la Mosson began in 1728. It was established by state treasurer Jospeh Bonnier, and remained an impressive folly until his financial ruin 30 years after it's initial construction began. The building then was converted into a soap factory until the city of Montpellier purchased it in 1982. All that remains today of the original construction is a Ventian-style pavillion, and a 100 metre long water channel. A large park is also located here. Hôtel de Fourques + My Favorites
Hôtel de Fourques was constructed at the beginning of the 18th century. The Aragonais district where the townhouse is located, is so named because it was ruled by the kings of Aragon from 1204 to 1349. In this historic city centre, many of the buildings feature detailed balconies, windows, and facades. In the 19th century a veranda was added to the courtyard, and it is impressive in itself. Palais des Rois d'Aragon + My Favorites
Palais des Rois d'Aragon is the site where the kings of Aragon once resided. There is a legendary story that Jacques d'Aragon killed his page here, for staining his clothes. Hôtel de Ganges + My Favorites
Hôtel de Ganges is an impressive piece of architecture that dates back to the end of the 18th century. It was built for Anne de Gévaudan, the Countess of Ganges. It features an entrance that is adorned with a wrought iron gate and a balcony. Located opposite is Fontaine de l'Intendance, which was built by a local sculptor in 1775. It depicts water being distributed to the residents of Montpellier, and the River Lez and River Mosson are represented with a fairy and two genies. Address: Place Chabaneau | Montpellier | 34000
Centre Saint Guilhem + My Favorites
Centre Saint Guilhem is located in the heart of the historic city centre of Montpellier. There is a large central courtyard and garden that are open to visitors. Inside the building, there is a library where guests are welcome. The building itself is also home to a Catholic seminary and residence, and several charities and other organizations also are housed here. Couvent des Ursulines + My Favorites
Couvent des Ursulines was reknowned for its education of young women. It was established in 1641 on the site of the Saint Catherines convent, and later became a women's detention centre. Hôtel Audessan + My Favorites
Hôtel Audessan was once the home of the Royal Administration of Languedoc. The building was constructed in the 17th century. It is located in the Cannau distruct of the historic area of Montpellier. Philosopher Auguste Compte and French writer Paul Valéry both resided here at one point. The entrance of the Hôtel is impressive, and the grounds also contain a large courtyard and garden. Hotel Perier + My Favorites
Hotel Perier is the home where famed Montpellier painter Francois Bazille was born. His works are displayed in the Fabre Museum, and he was well-known for his artistic portrayals of the region, emphasizing the use of light and colour. In addition to knowing many famous painters of the time, such as Renoir and Monet,he was also an avid patron of the arts. He died during the war of 1870. Today, Hotel Perier is surrounded by elaborate townhouses, and it's exterior is adorned with sculptures.
